A Personal Valentine’s Day
If you’re part of a couple, pay attention to little things your partner talks, dreams and wishes for. Listen for small, doable things that can make a big difference. You can also subtly question them about what he/she pictures as the perfect Valentine’s Day. Now take the information you have gathered and make it into a perfect day for him or her. If you’re single create your perfect Valentine’s Day for yourself. Love yourself that much.
The Ultimate Love Letter
Spend a few days jotting down notes about your partner; things you love about them, how they make you feel, what they mean to you, etc. Over those few days, get in touch with just how much you love them. Use your notes to write the best love letter or poem you’ve ever written. If this is your first – set the bar high! Buy a single red rose to go with it. Over dinner or a drink, hand them the rose and read your letter or poem out loud to them. You might need some tissues nearby!

One of my favorite ways to spend a low-cost valentine’s day is to stay home and have a picnic by candle light. Most of us have a few taper candles and candlesticks lying around to create ambiance. Maybe download some free jazz audio MP3′s. Throw a nice quilt on the floor. Bonus points if you have a fireplace and can throw a few logs on. Obviously, the main component of any picnic is food. Making your own chocolate dipped strawberries will cost you a few dollars and are generally associated with romance and luxury. As far as a main course, I find it’s best to cook what your significant other loves… even if that’s a hamburger with French fries. The important part is to spend time together without spending money on an impersonal dinner.

When you’re strapped for cash sometimes it’s best to just to take advantage of what’s around you: nature. Why not go for a romantic stroll around the park or take a drive to the lake. Pack a nice lunch, snuggle up (it’s still pretty cold in February!) and enjoy the view – including that of your partner! These kinds of memories are much more important than even a small gift that may just get put in a drawer!

Cooking and serving your love a fabulous candlelight dinner is an oldie but goldie idea, but if we are not well versed in kitchen it is better to surprise her with a romantic picnic instead.
Alternatively, if are deeply involved into a relationship, it is better create a home spa instead. Firstly pack the kids off to your parents, give your pets to someone for the day and pull the plug on your Blackberry. Valentine’s Day is on Monday, chances are she’ll come back to home from work tired – so it is advisable to lay out a treatment table, spa style, and massage her feet and back. Then we can turn down the lights and place scented candles around the tub, draw her a bubble bath, and once she’s comfortable, ramp up the experience with some mushy music and pour her a nice chilled glass of bubbly white wine or her favourite cocktail will do just as well.
